This Privacy Policy describes how Tangoi (“we”, “us”, or “our”) handles your information when you use the Tangoi iOS app.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Vocabulary words — the Japanese words and translations you add to your deck, including romaji, furigana, kanji, and English translations.
  • Chat messages — messages you send to the AI chat feature. These are transmitted to our server at japanese-word-reminder-server.fly.dev to generate responses.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Sign in with Apple — if you sign in, Apple provides an anonymised user identifier and, optionally, your name and email. We do not store your Apple ID credentials.
  • Subscription status — your active subscription tier is tracked via Apple StoreKit. We do not process payment information directly.
  • Push notification preferences — whether you have enabled daily practice reminders, stored locally on your device.

Information We Do NOT Collect

  • Location data
  • Contacts or address book data
  • Cross-app tracking or advertising identifiers (no IDFA)
  • Browsing history or usage analytics beyond what Apple provides to all developers in App Store Connect

How We Use Your Information

  • Vocabulary words are stored in iCloud via CloudKit to sync your deck across your Apple devices. Apple’s CloudKit terms and privacy policy govern this storage.
  • Chat messages are sent to our server solely to generate AI-powered vocabulary suggestions. We do not sell or share these messages with third parties.
  • Push notifications are scheduled locally on your device using Apple’s notification system.

Data Retention

  • Vocabulary words remain in CloudKit until you delete them from the app or delete your iCloud data.
  • Chat messages are retained on the server for the duration of an active conversation session and are not stored permanently.
  • Local data (notification preferences, cached words) is removed when you delete the app.

Children’s Privacy

Tangoi is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
